Tretinoin Gel 0.05% 20g

Tretinoin gel is a great choice for those wanting to improve the appearance of their skin and combat signs of ageing. It helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, stimulate collagen production, improve skin elasticity and firmness, reverse damage caused by sun exposure, reduce hyperpigmentation, unclog pores for a clear complexion, brighten dull skin, even skin tone and reduce scars.

How it Works:

Tretinoin gel is derived from vitamin A and is part of the retinoid family. It works by speeding up the rate which skin cells renew themselves. As we get older the rate which skin cells renew slows down. This results and visible signs of ageing. When tretinoin is applied topically onto the skin, new undamaged skin cells replace damaged skin cells more frequently, resulting in a more youthful appearance over time as lines and wrinkles etc will fade or disappear and your skin will also appear firmer, clearer and more radiant.

First-Time Users:

If you’re using tretinoin for the first time you may experience some mild side-effects such as skin redness, warmth, dryness (using a moisturiser will help with this), irritation or peeling of dead skin. However, if you do experience any of these side effects, they will stop once your skin has adapted which usually occurs after a few uses.

If it’s your first time using tretinoin, we recommend you start with the lowest strength (0.025%). This reduces the probability of your skin reacting negatively. After your skin has adapted, you may try a higher strength if you want to.

You shouldn’t use tretinoin if you a pregnant or breastfeeding. It’s also not recommended for people with extremely sensitive skin, rosacea, skin prone to rosacea, eczema or eczema prone skin.

Results:

Patience is key when using tretinoin. You won’t see results overnight, however if you include it into your skin routine you’ll notice your skin is clearer and smoother in as little as a few weeks. The longer you use it the more impressive the results will be. After a few months you’ll notice a significant improvement with your skin. Such as, lines, wrinkles and sun damage etc will be much less visible.

In order to maintain the improvements to your skin, continued use will be required. So, if you stop using it, the positive results will gradually disappear. Therefore, regular and consistent use is required to maintain the anti-ageing benefits.

Instructions

Tretinoin Gel 0.05% 20g Anti-Ageing Instructions:

Tretinoin should only be applied in the evening or before bedtime, as tretinoin may degrade if exposed to sunlight, making it much less effective if applied in the day time.

Apply tretinoin by following the steps below:

Clean your face and ensure it is completely dry.
Put a pea sized amount onto your finger tip, then apply a thin layer evenly to your face (avoid your lips and eyes) If you accidentally get tretinoin in your eyes immediately rinse them thoroughly with warm water.
Wait 20 to 30 minutes for the tretinoin to fully absorb into the deeper layers of your skin before continuing with your normal skincare routine (e.g. applying moisturiser or eye serum etc). Don’t use harsh facial exfoliants when tretinoin is being used as they may irritate your skin.

Recommendations:

If it is your first time using tretinoin, you should only apply it once or twice per week for the first few weeks. After your skin has adapted to it, you may use it more often such as every other night, then every evening if you choose to. However, if your skin reacts negatively stop using it for a few days to allow your skin to settle, then reduce the frequency of use when you begin using it again.

Remember only a pea-sized amount of tretinoin is required for your whole face. If you use too much or apply it too frequently it won’t speed up the results, but may increase the chances of your skin reacting negatively.

If you have sensitive skin or your skin is slow to adapt to tretinoin you can try applying it using the ‘sandwich method’. Begin by applying moisturiser first, followed by tretinoin, wait 20 to 30 minutes then apply more moisturiser. Apply it like this each time you use tretinoin until your skin has adapted. Please be aware this method dilutes the tretinoin, so is potency is reduced.

Tretinoin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. So sun protection should always be worn during the day (30 SPF or above). Moisturiser should be applied to your face morning and evening (a moisturiser with SPF can be used during the day).

If using Tretinoin for Acne:

If using tretinoin to treat acne only, you only need to apply it to the specific areas of your face which are affected by acne and you can stop using it when your acne has cleared. Usually in around six weeks.
